Feb2007/1 bulletin: Greenlane residents set security requirements

Dear residents,

Residents met on 25th June to re-consider the best way forward to address security concerns. This is in light of low participation, collection problems, and gating difficulties affecting service levels. Options considered:

1. Dissolve the security committee and terminate the guard services
2. Continue with the current services
3. Open up to row residents to setup own security services

The meeting agreed that since the implementation of the guard services in April, there were no incidents recorded. The service is an effective deterrent against potential crimes. However, some residents complained that the guard service level was low. The committee acknowledged that this has to improve, but to avoid any cost increase. Issues impacting service level:

• Low resident participation & payment, affecting ability to request for improved services. Some line leaders reported difficulties in collecting from neighbours.
• Implementation of gating without full resident acceptance.

The meeting felt the risk of not having guard deterrents was too high. Many residents have young children that play around the area. Having considered the issues and options available, the meeting agreed to continue with the current service with the need to improve service levels.

The committee believes that unity and participation is critical to improving security. We seek all residents to give the volunteer members their full support and assistance where possible. Residents are advised to air their concerns & disagreements either to the committee or at the website. A special team was setup to address residents’ issues individually.
