Cats going out of control

Eye The cats in the neighbourhood have been shiting and peeing in my house compound for sometime now. It is getting into my nerve and testing my patience very much. I am here requesting all cat owners to please take good care of their cats and please do what ever necessary to prevent them from shiting and peeing in other people's houses. The smell is unbearable. My neighbours are also complaining on the same matter. Please, please do something about it before it gets out of control. Thanking you in advance for your cooperation and support in addressing this issue.

Same problem here

Same here. The cats seems to like sleeping underneath my cars and yes, they occasionally like to leave a "present" behind. But it's not easy to control because most cats are allowed to roam freely.

Miowww.....

It's to good to know that others are suffering too. Thot, I am the only one facing the problem. The smell is unbearable....

I was told that once they have left their 'things' behind, they will return as it is part (incl the scent) of the territorial marking ritual. Anyone, got any solution other than keeping a dog? Eye

Most mornings I wake up to

Most mornings I wake up to the pong of freshly made cat droppings. They seem to love my little patch of grass. Scooping away fresh cat droppings with flies circling around is not an ideal start to a new day.

Cat repellents (cost me RM20++) only works for a while before the rain wash the effect away. I seriously have to consider putting up netting on my pagar to keep those cats from intruding to do their business.

nothing new ...

I have put up netting on my pagar ... it does limit the frequency of them coming in, but they can always climb or jump over.

I have noticed a two houses around U8/75C and/or U8/75D in which houses numerous free-roaming cats to the discomfort of their neighbours. Dont get me wrong, I love pets ... but sometimes, one would need to consider one's neighbours when one lets them roam around freely or let ones pet do their 'business' as and when and where they please.

In fact, this matter has been raised before in an earlier posting titled an appeal to Pet Owners.

To put things into simple perspective, for cat owners ... would you like dogs doing their business in your front lawn or loitering around your premises? for dog owners ... likewise? ... think of those who aren't pet owners at all ...

wanted to add that its not just cats tho ...

as my wife put it previously (and it still reoccurs occasionally) ... we have had dogs doing their business by the tree in front of my TNB meter near my gate too. How, do I know its not a cat ... well, the sheer volume of the 'end product' would mean that if it were a cat, it would have cleared more than what was in its bowels

I heard that ...

... one may try using chili powder and ginger as a cat repellent. apparently, they should be effective.

alternatively, I have friends that claim mothballs work too (for those trying to protect their plants).

dont really know for sure.

Can try use vinegar...

Every now and then I sprinkle some vinegar on the "hotspots"... it does reduces the frequency of their visits Eye

Thanx but need more info...

Will the grass die as vinegar is acidic??
How frequent is every now and then??
Any recommended vinegar brand??

Cat poo

We are also a favorite spot for cats who leave behind freshly made souvenirs too ..... we've tried picking them and flushing them away in our toilets ... but we keep getting new ones .... hmmmm.....
Does sprinkling chilli powder as suggested help? Will the chilli powder choke the cats in case they accidentally inhaled them? Don't want to cause those cats any asthma problem instead.

wow ...

that is so nice of you to be concerned for them even after they have did their business on your front lawn.

I guess they should be ok. It is most likely the scent of the chili powder or vinegar that would keep them from coming near ... though I am not an expert whether it would have any lasting effect.

We are pet lovers too

Hey Farid,

Yea - cos we are pet lovers too .... so we understand how pet owners feel when their pets are mistreated ..... so, just taking a simple precaution .... Smiling

For those of you who are

For those of you who are thinking about buying the “cat-repellent” to keep stray cats out of your homes, let me share my experience with you. I bought a few strips of the spiky-like-mat that is supposed to keep cats away from a shop called Daiso at the Curve and placed them on my lawn. I placed them at 2 ends of the grassy patch thinking that I can prevent the cats from entering the grass patch but unfortunately, it does not seem to work as I noticed fresh poo-poo left by the cats. I can’t tell if indeed it has reduced the frequency but it did not prevent entirely.

I just hope the owner of the cats realises how much inconvenience this has caused the neighbours. I was tempted to buy a litter box and give it to the owner but having spoken to them once on a separate issue, I decided not to as they don’t seem like “reasonable” people that will even bother to train the cats to use it.

Still searching for a solution....

i finally couldn't take it any longer. 2 days ago, i went to the hardware shop and got some netting and put it up on my gate. after an hour of labour, i thought to myself, "this should be good enuf" but the very same night, the cats still managed to climb in. i give up man. the urine and poo....argh...

no offence to cat owners but even dogs don't go inside ppl's compound and do their thing there. so, this is really testing my patience.

sorry....just venting out my frustration...

doggie

why not you keep a dog as a cat repellent? maybe the dog can take on a dual role as a "shoe-thief-repellent" as well.
as for the spiky like mat i had initially, it is definitely not working since the cats return to poo regularly.
