Two 'budak Cina' in a Malay household
Salam and good day,
I read this article in The Sun on 28th Aug 2009. Still find it very interesting and does reflect the bygones era. I was born and was in Ipoh till I was 15. Being a tin mine town (at that time), I was surrounded by the Chinese community. Used to go 'tangkap ikan dlm longkang', scouting and hang around with my Chinese buddies. I can still swear like a 'China man'. Unfortunately, we have lost touch when I went to a school in Taiping. Even in my scout's troop (8th Ipoh of Anderson School), we were the only troop with 1Malaysia concept - we have a Sikh, Chinese, Indians and Malays.
However, I do not deny hat the racial sentiment was still there back then but nobody brought it up like what we're doing now. Used to remember 'gang Melayu from Manjoi' lawan 'gang China from Ampang' after school. Most of them were cowards when they were not in their gang. So, do our politicians.
Sad to see that the 'segregation' does happen in our neighborhood. I do not wish to elaborate as it can be miscontrued. Hope we will try to improve the situation.
Have fun reading the article.
