Strengthening the residential community

i think most would agree that the key to a strong and united community is a having a strong social bond that ties us all.

so i thought of starting a discussion about ideas of activities that can strengthen the social bond for the green lane community.

my brother faridzr gave some ideas in a separate thread....

so let's hear of some ideas (don't worry, all ideas are allowed) that you would think could strengthen the community / social bond for green lane.

my thoughts would be regular community get together - (say) pot luck, children's parties etc.

attached a flyer to drive online participation.

My thots

1/ Quarterly birhday parties for moms, dads, kids & grandparents
2/ Outdoor activities - football, hiking & cycling. Let's explore the secondary forest near Tropika 2
3/ Festive makan2 - hire a caterer and everybody chips in

I seldom see anybody during my occasional walk. The only time I see a lot of residence is during the committee meeting.

We need to get out from our 4 walls more often. Let's start to mingle. Neighbors will be the first to come for your aid during emergency. Forget about security, CMD etc.

what happened to plan?

was told that the committee is planning for JJ residents get together this month. Food will be on potluck basis. Not sure what's the status now

(extracted from a posting by yaroq on 8 March 2007 - 1:28pm)

Anyone know what happened to the pot luck thingy. Personally, I agree with what Yaroq mentioned in his third suggestion. We can have a makan2 session (possibly with a barbecue et al) using a caterer (and being mindful of what some can eat and can not eat) in which we can all chip in. We could also have some activities for the little ones etc.

Hopefully, we'd be able to mix around and get to know one another better.

House warming

Izral -our entertainment and recreational committee member was entrusted to handle the event materialised. I have not seen him for quite a while now. Busy with work, I guess. I did briefly ask our Chief and he did mention that we're waiting for some money in our fund.

You can start by having one at your house when you move in. When aaa?

Do you realise that only 3 of us (TheFazz, you & me) are normally actively participating in this website?

yaroq - yup you are right.

yaroq - yup you are right. izral is in charge of recreation & entertainment. however, that does not stop us from taking the initiative to organise a "catering potluck". let's discuss of what can be done. we can send flyers and get some commitments from residents to contribute towards the catering, fun & games (for the kids). each of us can bring out our monopoly / chess set for the fun & games.

now the main question is: venue.

*ps - yes, it's just the 3 of us.... but i trust that there will be more. "build it, and they will come" lol.

... where ah?

now the main question is: venue

Don't think anyone's house would be appropriate. Don't think we should use/'sewa' the dewan near the schools either (doubt that it would meet our objective as the warm ambience won't quite be there).

Personally, I kinda prefer if we have the makan2 outdoors, say, the middle playground. At least the little ones would be able to run around and have their own activities. Not sure whether we would need specific approvals to hold it there. Some more with the uncertainty of the weather puts more doubt on my proposed location ... hmmm, dunno lar.

then the potluck

then the potluck contribution amount should include marquee rental.

Greenlaners get together

Chief (Rajinder) told me that we are going to hv our big makan on 19th May. He was supposed to discuss with the commitee. Any feedback? Jadi ka?

Residents need to be notified upfront.

ideas.

whilst waiting for the potluck to happen, anybody want to join me in karting? or else, somebody can organise golf for residents (i don't play golf, though). or perhaps even some tai chi, bola padang kecik or something.

as for karting, i will be happy to organise an event just for residents. do let me know if there is demand..

... we definitely need some activites to get to know each other

I seldom see anybody during my occasional walk. The only time I see a lot of residence is during the committee meeting.

This is so true. I have only just moved in two weeks ago, and aside from the one or two regulars I see taking their regular walks or those I see at the playground, I don't really have the chance to get to know most of the residents here.

... faridzr gave some ideas in a separate thread....

Any feedback/comments? I like theFazz's suggestions of having events - sports or otherwise. I don't play golf, but would sure like to learn. Not much good at karting, but don't mind going for a spin. Heck, we can do a bowling session, have events for the kids etc. But first, we really need to know, whether we can get the numbers. Don't want to organise things and have a handful of residents turning up (whoops ... deja vu)

Lets come with something and have FUN together.

having fun together

"having fun together" sounds a little naughty, but what the heck. Smiling

anyway, i started a thread on karting. for those interested, pls post there so i can gauge what i can do.

Big makan - postpone

From Chief - big makan not yet finalised. Waiting for Izral. I suggest we do some sort of a small scale pot luck event. We'll think of a venue but school hols is a no-no. Will be attending weddings on weekends. There goes my brisk walking and tummy. Been ballooning ever since I moved into Greenlane. Sign of prosperity???

... heh heh

its more like sign of content & happiness for me (and over-eating). Don't think I am prosperous yet.

agree with small scale do

From Chief - big makan not yet finalised. Waiting for Izral. I suggest we do some sort of a small scale pot luck event.

i agree with yaroq to have a small scale pot luck. in fact, we should start most things small in order to just get the ball rolling. kalau nak tunggu grand scale do, sampai bila-bila pun tak buat.
