Change of guard
Salam and good day;
Not sure if anyone realised that as of 16th March, a new security company has been mobilised - Delta Force. They did a wonderful job in Ara Damansara. However, this may be due to the owner also lives there. We are willing to give it a try as the previous guards perfomance had started to deteriorate.
The whole replacement process was handled by a handful of residents, comprising only residents of Jalan U8/75 South - Farid (Secretary), Jo (Treasurer), Hisham (Line Leader) and Fahmi (Security).
Some of us had initially decided not to engage any more guards as we do not see any interest from the rest except from us at U8/75 South. However, since we do have friends in other lanes, the hardcores had mellowed down and decided to pursue with employing new guards. Hope to see more to participate as security is everybody's responsibility. We need to throw away the 'tidak apa' attitude. These handful of clowns also have family and career like all of you.
Fee collection remains an obstacle. I do not understand why anyone cannot part with RM50 per month but can afford to buy a house and a car.
I also observe that we have started to spend less time mingling with each other. I myself have stopped attending the weekly futsal and badminton events to concentrate on my cycling. The newbies tend to stay inside their houses and never foray outside. It is a sad trend. That's why 1 Malaysia will not succeed. Mark my word.
I also think that the committee members need to see each other asap. Looking at the trend, I do not think the neighborhood's unity will last long. The handful of concerned residents are also getting tired as they had been running around managing the neighborhood since day one. Please do not repeat the same mistake where we were all united and concerned only after incidents happen.
Bear in mind the guards are only deterrents. The neighbours are the first to provide aid.

Change of Guard
I am not aware that the security company has been changed. Anyway they are doing well. I agree the Greenlane residents are becoming strangers to each other. Hope we revive the initial spirit when we first shifted in. We can start with the discussion this Friday to draw out strategies for the future. Thanks.
guards ...
I dont know how many threads we have which are on security guards and related issues.
Thank you to those who work tirelessly on this, but I still would like to see more residents doing their part in ensuring the safety and security of Greenlane.
Guards can only do so much, ulimately, it boils down to us neighbours to put in our efforts. Which would also include not making things difficult for the guards (i.e. to help where possible), to join in (where possible) and get involved in community matters (in doesn't take way too much of our time - unless its just the same old few who are doing everything unselfishly) and also to actually take the time to get to know our neighbours and look out for one another.
No of guards to date
According to Mr Secretary we have changed 6 security providers in less than 3 years and we are running out of option in getting RM4 per guard per hour. So, pls do not count of reducing the fees. We are doing survey of what others are paying and to date, ours is the cheapest. RM 50 per month to me is well below market price and a small sum to pay for family safety. I wish if we could increase so that we will be able to increase the guards to 4. However, I admit that at this moment we are really struggling.
I would like to post the list of non payers in the forum once available. There are approx 17 houses at this moment. Mr Treasurer is updating the list once he receives the latest update from the line leaders.
You got my full support
I am ever prepared to pay a higher monthly fees for the security. I cant understand people who are willing to compromise on security. I believe RM50 a month is on the low side if we want to have a reasonable level of security. My hats of to you guys who have done so much for the Greenlane community and you know who you are.

Once again, thks a lot.
RM100 ok

RM50 is on the low side. was ok at RM100. only snag - there were many who would not pay that much.
Tak aci....
Bro Fazz... your vote is invalid since you'll be gone soon.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting for the fees to be increased but to show everyone that we're paying the lowest rate in BJ or maybe in the whole world. I also want to kill the issue of reducing the fees.
Agree with you Fazz, if we start to increase, we may have more non participants. Like Lingam, I still do not understand why some of us are willing to compromise safety for the sake of RM 50 or even RM 100. The value is small in this current world. Pls take note that I'm not rich and it took me 18 hard working years to be where I am now.
I just hope that everybody wakes up before the committee members become more demoralised and start to abandon their missions. Then, everybody in Greenlane is vulnerable.
the scenario is ...
it is very unlikely that we can raise the security fees above RM50 in the near future without any proper justification that would be well received by all residents. I'd put our chances of raising the fees between 'fat' or 'slim' - you can choose which one you like.
the alternative is to find one of the cheapest security service provider and pay them the lowest possible fee (the lowest one can find in Lembah Klang) and try to kick them hard enough and often enough so that they start to offer the services similar to those provided by the premium security firms. just need committed residents to keep on monitoring the guards' performance 24-7. yup. the only problem is that committed residents are just as hard to find as the cheap security firms that offer good services.
if only we pay peanuts and get one of them intelligent monkeys that get launched into space ... heh heh
one can dream...
... struggling to stay afloat
This is the approach that we have since taken since we started down this path some 2 years back or so.
As mentioned in another of my posting, we need more volunteers to help out with this so that we can have a better coordinated effort when dealing with the security service providers as well as in relation to any other security related matters. Many of the motivational drive and spirit that some of the volunteers have had in the past is rapidly disappearing.
I'm bloody fed up...
The faces of my neighbors who tirelessly managing the issues keep me moving although I do let off my steam once in a while. Imagine only 6 out of 200++ in Greenlane really care what is happening in Greenlane. Don't know what else to say....
Lu orang pikirla sendiri....
every one seems to think that it should be so simple ...
strangely enough ... what you had mentioned reminds me of what fz7 had said in his posting on 14 November 2007 - 11:02pm. Something which I feel is a really broad sweeping statement which was made with very little thought put into it.
Cakap senang. We can have that if everyone is cooperative and eager to assist. What we have here is that no one is really bothered (until some crisis or unfortunate event occurs) and heck ... some even put up resistance.
I reiterate my point made previously ... we are neighbours in a small neighbourhood. if some thing happens and no one cares nor take the time to help those in need due to their busy life schedule ... I am not sure what kind of neighbours we are. Make the time.
If you're not part of the solution ... you're part of the problem.
